KATHARINE TEMPLE –
The fleeting beauty of Donegal’s wildflowers, topography and skyscrapers is a recurring
inspiration for artist Katharine Temple. Painted ‘en plein air’ in the landscape, and in her
Donegal studio, her evocative works vary in scale, and are painted in watercolour or oil,
depending on the time of day and movement of light.
Katharine Temple was born in the Highlands of Scotland, gained a Master of Arts at St
Andrews University and went on to study at the KLC school of Design in London, before
working for one of Europe's leading Design and Architecture studios.
In 2017 Katharine moved to Mountcharles, overlooking Donegal Bay, and found
in the surrounding landscape, and flora and fauna, a new immersive inspiration.
The colour and movement found in her large-scale watercolours and her lushly hued, highly
textured, oil landscapes and seascapes immediately transport the viewer to the raw beauty
of the West of Ireland's stark, coastal landscape.
Katharine also undertakes annual painting trips to the Outer Hebrides, the Highlands of
Scotland, Italy and Connemara.
