JACINTA MONKS

Jacinta Monks’ artistic journey began early, with her first work exhibited at just ten years old. She honed her creative skills at The Grafton Academy of Dress Design, before furthering her expertise in tailoring-a skill that led her to craft much of her own clothing and furnishings.
Her academic pursuits took her to Trinity College Dublin, where she she studied French and Spanish for four years. She then completed a two-year research Master’s degree in the History of Ideas, Pre Enlightenment France. This was followed by a Higher Diploma in Education.
After the tragic loss of her 14-year old son to cancer and a subsequent period of illness, Jacinta returned to her lifelong passion: art. She spent almost two decades living and working between Brittany, France, where she had a house, and Ireland, where she painted and exhibited. Back in Ireland, she continued her studies at the National College of Art and Design and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
A pivotal moment in Jacinta’s artistic development came under the mentorship of Max Ginsburg of the Art Students League in New York. There, she embraced classical techniques and the practice of painting the human figure all prima, which profoundly influenced her style.
Jacinta’s work has been exhibited in France and in Ireland, including the Copper House Gallery, The Kildare Gallery, and currently the Trinity Gallery on Clare Street, Dublin. Her acclaimed exhibition, ‘From Beauty to Decay” explored the lifecycle of sunflowers and was met with great success.
Her paintings are held in private collections in London, Switzerland, Lithuania, France and Ireland. In addition to her figurative work -such as her evocative ‘Swimmers” and other seaside scenes- Jacinta weaves her love of literature and philosophy into her more experimental pieces. Notable recent works include “Diptych, Le Cygne” inspired by Baudelaire’s “Les Fleurs du Mal.”
Jacinta was granted a residency at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre post COVID and continues to create in her Sutton studio. She hosts open studio days twice a year and publishes a quarterly newsletter. Known for her commitment to quality and innovation, Jacinta Monks’ work is ever-evolving, promising exciting new directions for art lovers and collectors alike.
