William Cunningham

William Cunningham (b.1946) grew up near Crossgar, Co.Down. The artist abandoned his career as lecturer in philosophy after receiving great success at his one-man exhibition he had organised in Northern Ireland. Expanding his art career over the last twenty years has encouraged him to address a range of subjects, of which he has been best acclaimed for are his landscapes of Ulster, his cornfields, poppy fields, and Irish cottages.
The artist has developed his style from his early work of traditional Irish landscapes portrayed in finely detailed brushstrokes and vibrant colours. Still adhering to similar subject matter the artist renders his later works using larger brushstrokes with a great deal of attention. Even with this change in technique the artist ability to render these traditional subjects of Irish country life in such a way that manifest a splendor of light and colour that lifts the spirit.
