Joop Smits (1938-2014) was born in Eindhoven, Holland and graduated from the Eindhoven Academy in 1961. In 1992 he moved to  Kerry in Ireland where he built a studio and lived there until 2008.  While living in Ireland he exhibited his work in The Taylor Gallery, Belfast and Leinster Gallery, Dublin.
